HOW TO BE AN ACTIVE BYSTANDER IN TACKLING VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls)

Please be aware this event is on multiple dates. The date you choose will include a second session exactly one week later at the same time. e.g 11th January 9:30am will follow with 18th January 9:30am - you are required to attend both

What is it?

Active Bystander Training gives you a range of tools to safely respond to potentially harmful situations such as sexual harassment in public places. By attending the training you can gain the skills, confidence, knowledge and practical tools and techniques to intervene skilfully and safely in a range of situations, whether with a stranger or with a friend.

That could be diffusing it, offering help to the victim or calling on others to help you out. It doesn’t have to be confrontational – a few calm words can make the difference. When we intervene skilfully, we encourage others to do so too, sparking positive culture change and preventing violence against women and girls, making everyone feel safer in public spaces.

No previous knowledge of VAWG, Domestic Abuse, or Bystander interventions is needed.

This training is funded by Kim McGuinness, the Northumbria Police & Crime Commissioner, as part of her ongoing commitment to women’s safety.
